SUBJECT: Big in 2012 – Apple iPad 3 c
LOCATION: gz, Bangladesh
2011 was another imperious year for Apple on the tablet front. Its iPad 2 shook off initial disappointment to soundly trounce any and all Android pretenders. But the competition is now hotting up, with an ominous Amazon-shaped cloud floating into view. Can the iPad 3 continue Apple’s tablet dominance?
One thing seems certain – 2012 will be the closest fought year on the tablet market yet. While the iPad and iPad 2 have done unbelievably well, this success has to be cast against the failure of its one true competitor up to this point – the Android Honeycomb OS.
That’s set to change, though, with the emergence of the hugely-improved Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Then there’s the Amazon Kindle Fire, which will launch in the UK and the wider world in 2012. What will the iPad 3 use to defend Apple’s position?

HD screen
While the iPad and iPad 2 have both been praised for the quality of their screens, the truth is they’re not particularly sharp. Indeed, their 1024 x 768 resolution produces a pixel density of just 132 ppi. To put that into context, the iPhone 4S (which runs on the same processor) boasts a pixel density of 330 ppi – well over double the sharpness.
It’s a weakness common to all tablets, and we’ll start to see a number of high definition examples in 2012. Reports suggest the iPad 3 will double up on its resolution (and hence pixel density), producing a 2048 x 1536 QXGA display. Not quite Retina display sharpness (which means 300 ppi or above), but not far off.
Quad-core processor
As we’ve discussed elsewhere, 2012 will be the year of quad-core processors. Tablets are at the forefront of this upgrade, as evidenced by the release of the Asus Transformer Prime late last year. Of course, that’s an Android device, so the iPad 3 will have to hit the ground running.
Rumour has it that the iPad 3 launch with a quad-core processor built by Samsung. The A6, as it should be known, will come with four cores and should be very swift indeed. It’s worth remembering that the iPad 2 and its A5 chip remains the quickest dual-core tablet chip around, thanks in large part to its stunning GPU. We’d be very surprised if the A6 doesn’t follow suit.Designer iPhone 4 cases
